This game was surprisingly hard, but mostly because the encounter rate was too high and the ATB still needed perfecting; in other words, it was imbalanced-hard, not actual-hard. I never really liked FFIV, to be honest, when comparing it to FFV (my favorite one) and FFVI (which was simply amazing).
I specifically did not use Kain because it annoyed me how he keeps betraying you. So when they allowed the use of non-Kain party members in the GBA version, I was pleased and went for Yang, who kicks a fairly decent amount of ass.
Final word on the superboss, Zeromus EG: use one of the Grimoires to turn him into a toad. EG? More like GG.

I would've given it to Edge had Edge not been a disgrace to the ninja moniker, being the weakest ninja I've ever played as in my entire life. Otherwise…I don't know…the characters in this game largely failed to impress me.
Villain rating: okay
Zemus is pretty generic. He's full of hate. After he dies, his hatred manifests and you need to fight it as Zeromus. Hate can do that?
Gameplay rating
Here we have the advent of the ATB, and it ran horribly when it first came out. Characters sometimes skip turns or get two turns. Enemies do the same. There is a big problem when you get a pre-emptive strike and the enemy still manages to go before you.
Difficulty rating
Due to the ATB and the high encounter rate, the game can actually be very difficult. But in my opinion, games that are imbalanced-hard aren't actually hard; they're simply annoying.
Storyline rating: good
…especially compared to the previous 3 entries. FFIV was the first entry into the series where the writers really focused on plot and character development, and it shows.

Again, why is this one such a famous quote? Oh well…I didn't have any quotes in mind so I'll go with the mob on this one.
Overpowered award
Nothing comes to mind here.
Final boss: Zeromus, the physical manifestation of some mad moon man's hate
