It's been a long time coming. I started these between finishing my Master's degree and starting my PhD - almost a decade ago. And now, with the Diablo III shrine complete, all my Blizzard shrines - and that long and winding plotline I devised - are now done. I don't even know if any of that would be considered good writing, but it doesn't matter to me - I had fun writing them, and I do have to admit I felt a sense of personal accomplishment when I wrote the concluding line to the Diablo III shrine.
I also want to say that beyond being a shrine to the games and the many hours I spent immersed in these worlds, my shrines ended up paying homage to my incredible friends over the years - from middle school to now. Benamin within the shrines overcame so many trials by relying on his friends, and though I don't think I'll have the happy ending shrine-me got, in real life I owe many of my accomplishments to the support my friends gave me at every stage. I finally got around to doing that Final Fantasy shrine revamp. I had some other, more ambitious ideas, but I'd rather spend what energy I have doing something new. At the very least, there's so much I want to finish. I hate leaving things partially done.
On the current radar: finish the Diablo III shrine, and by extension, the Blizzard family of shrines; do something Fire Emblem related in anticipation for the release of Three Houses this week; and determine what I want to do for Total War: Three Kingdoms, a game I had a blast playing and finished a few weeks ago. |
