FFI was actually a lot of fun despite it being very elementary. The Soul of Chaos dungeons were a very nice touch, featuring famous bosses from subsequent games:
Final Fantasy III: the guardians of the Dark Crystals (Echidna, Ahriman, 2-Headed Dragon, and Cerberus).
Final Fantasy IV: the elemental fiends (Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, Barbariccia, and Rubicante).
Final Fantasy V: Atomos, Gilgamesh, Omega, and Shinryu (these last two are nightmares to fight).
Final Fantasy VI: Typhon, Ultros (misspelled…), Phantom Train, and Deathgaze
I chose not to have a white/black mage just to make the game more challenging; also, not many people use the red mage and I kind of like the idea of someone who can use both colors of magic.
On a final note, Death Machine wasn’t hard at all. It was just really hard to find.
I’ve heard that this game is very much toned down from the original NES version…and I must say that when the game gives you items that allow any character to use spells like Healara and Flare…the game does indeed become very easy. In fact, it makes it so you have absolutely no use for a white or a black mage (hey, that lends itself nicely to my requirements!).
As I said, the Soul of Chaos dungeons were awesome. It’s cool to see bosses from FFIII-FFVI all in there, though I wonder why they chose the Phantom Train. The Phantom Train was never a challenge (and this is ignoring the fact that you can Phoenix Down it for a cheap 1-shot kill).

The ninja is my favorite job class, if you want a straight answer.
Villain rating: okay
…though I wonder how a guy who lost to four young amateurs ever became a knight, much less one of the best knights in Cornelia. It then makes even less sense that this weak knight could put the world into a massive crisis.
Gameplay rating
Clean and simple. You choose stuff and the round plays.
Difficulty rating
Apparently, the original NES version was really hard. The Advance port was easy unless you count the Soul of Chaos dungeons, in which case it got fairly hard.
Storyline rating: okay
There's nothing special about it, but when did this game come out?

Honestly, I don't know exactly what's so great about this quote, but it's apparently one of the most memorable lines in the series, so here it is.
Overpowered award
…In the Advance port, you get items that, when used in battle, allow anyone to cast Flare and Cura an unlimited amount of times, meaning white and black mages are rendered almost irrelevant.
Final boss: Chaos, some random knight of Cornelia's ancient form...somehow
