Oh, my favorite Final Fantasy. The job system, as implemented here, is awesome. I still made sure each character was unique, though, because that’s something I feel is important in an RPG – the whole concept of characters being characters and not stereotyped battle slots.
The main thing I remember about FFV, though, is the difficulty. FFV is hard because it’s hard. The encounter rate isn’t maddening, and the ATB ran perfectly. The game makes you use jobs properly; level-grinding won’t get you very far. The optional bosses are downright hell. Omega and Shinryu hit hard and fast. Omega Mk. II changes his weakness and has a room full of Omegas in front of him. Neo Shinryu can turn himself invulnerable whenever he feels like using his hidden invincible targets. I’m really surprised I managed to beat these guys.
Of course, what this means is after I completed everything, my party was strong enough to beat Neo Exdeath more easily than I can do addition.
Character award: Lenna Charlotte Tycoon
She's a very generic princess, you might say, in that she's kind and…a princess. Well, that's true. What's wrong with kind princesses? I will say, though, that if I weren't a ninja, sworn to rid the world of those weak things they call "pirates," I would've probably considered Faris for this award.
Villain rating: bad
ExDeath is an extremely generic villain with a generic backstory and a generic goal: he's the embodiment of lots of evil and he wants to claim some godlike power so he can rule the world with his evilness. His theme is basically just evil, which is…boring.

The ATB ran perfectly, completing the transition from turn-based battles in FFIII to the ATB staple here. The Job System is simply awesome, as it means you can customize your characters. While FFIII is the first to implement the Job System, it was implemented much better here.
Difficulty rating
FFV is HARD. Many say this is the hardest one ever made. You need to be careful with the Job System, or you’ll walk into battle and get destroyed. Then there are the superbosses…FFV was the first to give you bosses that were optional and were really, really hard. Omega and Shinryu gave even the most experienced player a challenge. A first-time player who wandered into the little robot very soon learned the meaning of the word “owned.”
Storyline rating: okay
When the main villain is generic, the story can’t be all that great. Nothing really special here.

“Time for your viscera to see the light of day!” – ExDeath
While ExDeath isn’t all that intriguing as a villain, he sure knows how to threaten you.
Quote award (take 2)
“Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men!” – Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh says this in the Void, right after he decides to befriend you.
Quote award (take 3)
“Yes, the twelve legendary weapons. They are weapons. They are legendary. And there are even twelve of them!” – Ghido
Ghido makes it a point to mock Bartz after Bartz mistakes him for a random turtle (Ghido is a turtle, just a sage-turtle, not a random one).
Overpowered award
The ranger’s Rapid Fire skill, which allows a character to attack four times. Couple that with the dual-wield skill and you get 8 attacks. Only optional bosses with random invulnerability (like Neo Shinryu) can counter this; I can kill Neo ExDeath with ease using Rapid Fire.
Final boss: Neo ExDeath, the...umm...what exactly IS Neo ExDeath, anyway?
