This game is so very overrated. It's a great game and I really enjoyed playing through it, but it's not the best game ever like some people will tell you.
FFVII is also very easy. Even the WEAPONs were not hard given you knew what to do:
By the way, my Materia setup is this (left to right, weapon and then armor):
Cloud: Master Magic, All, Double Cut, HP Plus, Master Command, HP Absorb.
Tifa: Enemy Skill, Master Command, Counter Attack, Luck Plus, Master Summon, Underwater.
Yuffie: Master Magic, All, Master Summon, MP Absorb, Magic Plus, Slash-All, Counter.
Final word on why I decided not to use Tifa’s Premium Heart even though I got it: quite simply, it sucks. It powers up depending on how full Tifa’s Limit gauge is, so to keep it relevant, you need to avoid using her Limit Break. I also feel that Doom of the Living is better than is All Creation, so I use that instead.
Character award: Tifa Lockhart
Originally, I wanted to give this to Yuffie and, really, that wouldn’t necessarily have been a stretch. Contrary to what you see in battle, her skills are actually really deadly. She stole my entire party’s Materia without even touching us. In Advent Children, she flips around a skyscraper in fighting Bahamut SIN. I mean granted, her attacks did very little to it, but man it looked awesome.
But…I have to be real here – I’m a guy, and no less than 120% of guys playing this game would list Tifa as his favorite character if he were asked. So, to the surprise of exactly nobody, Tifa wins the character award for FFVII.
Villain rating: awesome
Sephiroth is widely regarded as one of the best video game villains of all time, and for good reason. Game-wise, he’s honestly not strong at all, but that’s due to the availability of things like Knights of the Round and Omnislash. Story-wise, “his strength is unreal.”
Gameplay rating
Nothing wrong here. Pausing the ATB during those long battle animations is a great way to implement eye candy while still preserving the battle mechanics (I find it a bit sad I even need to mention this, but when we get to FFIX it’ll become important).
Difficulty rating
Nonexistent. FFVII is by far the easiest one…although getting strong enough for it to be a cakewalk could take a lot of time.
Storyline rating: awesome
FFVII does have a nice, intriguing storyline, especially when you look at all the backstory. Its characters seem real, with feelings and concerns. There’s an entire scenario inside Cloud’s head and, as you learn throughout the beginning of the game, Cloud requires lots of head therapy. The major plot twist in the middle of the game is legendary among the gaming community.

This is Cid being hospitable, having just invited your party into his house for tea.
Overpowered award
Omnislash. It hits 15 times as opposed to Knights of the Round, which hits 13 times. This means it is marginally more powerful. With the Ultima Weapon, Cloud can pretty much kill anything in the game whose name doesn’t start with a precious gem and end with something in all capital letters. Barring Omnislash, the game is full of overpowered moves. 4x-Cut. Knights of the Round. Quadra Magic (or…whatever it’s called…I forget…). Hell, even Tifa’s Limit is overpowered. You don’t even need to go for the double damage slots; just focus on avoiding Misses and she’ll perform all of her moves.
Final boss: Sephiroth, the One-Winged Angel

FFVII is also very easy. Even the WEAPONs were not hard given you knew what to do:
- Have Counter linked to Mime and Knights of the Round linked to HP Absorb on anyone. Make sure this character has really high HP. You could say he/she needs…over 9000 HP.
- Enter battle alone – the other two characters should be knocked out.
- At the start of the battle, summon Knights of the Round.
- Go elsewhere and do stuff (in real life). Come back in around 15 minutes and whatever WEAPON you were fighting will be dead.
- In case you want a more detailed explanation…here's what happened in those 15 minutes:
- WEAPON attacks you and does damage less than your HP.
- You counter with Mime. This means you mimic the last action taken, and because you're the only character standing the last action taken was Knights of the Round.
- HP Absorb steals HP back for you. Since KotR does an insane amount of damage, it will absorb at least 9999 HP, restoring you to full health.
- Return to (5.1).
