Ranma ½: Akanekodan Teki Hihou Ranking: A
That translates to Ranma ½: Treasure of the Red Cat Gang. I found this game while playing Destiny of an Emperor II (check out my shrine for it!) as the same people were translating both games. Unlike Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu, this game doesn’t follow anything in the Ranma ½ anime. Instead, it has a completely original storyline featuring the lovable cast of Ranma ½. The characters’ curses come into play frequently, e.g. you need to enter a women-only room so you need to turn Ranma into a girl, Ryoga into a pig, and so on.
Gameplay is standard RPG fare – the characters level up and learn new techniques, with each character specializing in different areas. Akane, for example, is your healer, whereas Ryoga deals a ton of damage with his moves. The graphics are simple and so is the gameplay, but I really enjoyed this game. Games don’t need to be overly complicated to be good. This is a great example of a game that has good humor, tells a short story, and is simply enjoyable to play.
Here’s my favorite Ranma ½ character, Shampoo, at the end of the game. I want to say level 42 is overleveled, since I spent a lot of time grinding, but I still remember the last boss being hard:
